YOU KNOW YOUR PUNJABI WHEN...
some of this stuff comes from my own experience and some of it I got off a website but its all pretty much 100% true!
1. everyone always calls you for help on homework
2. you know lots about desi fashion
3. your parents tell you that roti is healthy even though it isn't
4. you go out for food, your parents fight over the bill
5. your parents only have desi friends
6. your parents want you to become a doctor or engineer
7. Your best friend got married at the age of 17/18
8. your parents don't let you out of the house after 8
9. your parents make you do all your homework even if it takes you 5 seconds
10. your parents get very upset when airlines refuse to accept your luggage which is just 50 kgs overweight
11. you have been chased around the house with heavy tools
12. your parents compare you to other kids
13. your parents tell you eat lots of roti to gain weight
14. your parents say they understand English and then after ask you what the word means
15. you go back to your Punjab and people treat you like a member of the royal family
16. your parents make you go shopping with them
17. your parents have 4 cups of cha everyday
18. when you tell your parents you got 98%, and they ask you what happened to the other two percent
19. you tell everyone you eat lots of spicy food but u don't
20. you hate to eat at restaurants and rather eat at home
21. your mum saves lots of grocery bags for later uses
22. you're walking out of customs with your trolley at the airport and you see all twenty-five members of your family who have come to pick you up
23. your parents always buy 2 gallons of milk every day
24. you have to stick with your mum everywhere you go, even the Gurduwara
25. you love to eat subway
26. your mum owns at least 150 suits
27. when you have a party, instead of cooking for 50 people the food is so much it can go for like 150 people.
28. you make fun of gore people in Punjabi, right in front of their faces.
29. your parents get a mini heart attack if they hear a product $20 or more
30. you take tons of food anywhere it says 'No Food Allowed'
31. you know what your mum is cooking when you walk into your house
32. your parents try and reuse gift wrappers, gift boxes etc
33. you are standing next to the two largest suitcases at the Airport
34. your parents tell you to speak Punjabi in the house and then they start talking in English
35. your mum likes to listen to hip hop music even though they don't know what the person is saying
36. your parents talk for an hour at the front door when leaving someone's house
37. your mom likes to listen to Hindi music even though she is Punjabi
38. your mom is an expert in anthakshri
39. you could not explain your religion to someone if you tried
40. your parents make you go to your store every weekend
41. your parents call america "Amrika" and canada "kanedaa"
42. your family members including you are experts at swearing in Punjabi
43. you have seen at least one fight at a party
44. you put leftover food in ice cream containers
45. your parents want u to be at least 6 ft
46. you arrive to a party late and think its normal
47. Your parents don't realize phone connections to foreign countries have improved in the last two decades, and still scream at the top of their lungs when making long distance calls
48. if your parents find something in sale, they start buying amounts of that item.
49. You use chilli sauce instead of tomato sauce
50. whenever your parents go to someone's house, they always talk about their business and kids.
51. you think Tunak Tunak Tun makes sense
52. u leave from someone's house and then start talking about them
53. you always leave your shoes at the door
54. your parents bring lots of food with them when they travel (maximum 30 mins)
55. your parents always bargain
56. your parents drag you to some big party full of other desi people and you don't even know what the party is for
57. if it's slightly cold in the morning when you leave, mom makes you wear a jacket and gets scared
58. instead of z its jee, e.g. zero = jeero.
59. you fill your 5-seater family car with 10 people.
60. you go to a person's house for the first time, the person offers you money($50-$100)
61. you were taught never to talk to strangers , yet your parents force you to call a complete stranger "bhaiya etc"
62. your parents use grocery bags as garbage bags.
63. your parents start spelling their name to the operator like A as in Apple, B as in boy
64. you ask for small drink at fast food restaurant because the refill is free
65. when you cough once in front of your parents, your parents get scared and start thinking your sick
66. you don't accept any money from others
